Strangers’ sweat

Savasana is a really relaxing yoga posture. Doing it in between other postures or as the final posture in class re-energizes and relaxes the body. However, yesterday as I was lying on my back in final savasana, some other people were walking out of the classroom and drip drip – I felt strangers’ sweat drip on my forehead. Talk about an eeeeew moment. Continue reading

Addicted to sweating

The first week of my sweaty adventure is done! And I loved every sweaty second of it :)

Last week, I did bikram yoga six times and attended a posture class where we learned about the history of bikram and the instructor answered questions about some of the poses. Traditional bikram focuses on a series of 26 postures done in the same order each time; what I like about the studio I go to is the relaxed setting and attitude; they’ll often change the order or add in different poses, depending on how the class is going. There are 84 postures in all so there are a lot to choose from! On Sunday we had an advanced two-hour class and did a lot of new poses, including lunges with back bends and crazy hip openers. We also tried this crazy one where we tried to balance on your fingers and lift your legs – it’s impossible for me at the moment. Continue reading

The Sweaty Adventurer

During January, you can call me the Sweaty Adventurer. Today was day 1 of a new adventure/challenge I’m taking on this month: January is MOGA aka Month of Hot Yoga. That’s right, I’m going to be doing bikram yoga every.single.day. Voluntarily. I actually paid money for this.

Chupacabras are like Jennifer Lopez

I don’t see the resemblance either, but according to the director of the International Cryptozoology Museum, chupacabras are like JLo because both are bi-cultural. Yeah …

As part of my 26th birthday celebration on the 30th, I met my aunt for lunch at Asmara, a fantastic Eritrean restaurant, and then we went to the International Cryptozoology Museum. I had no idea this place existed until I came across a write up on the Maine Travel Maven blog – I knew it would be a perfect adventure for my birthday.

The weather outside was frightful

But the tacky-Christmas-sweater-pub-crawl was so delightful!

The big snow storm hit our area last Sunday night, which was the night of the annual tacky Christmas sweater pub crawl, an annual event organized by some high school classmates. Like true Mainers, we didn’t let a little snow interrupt the plans – the snow may have devastated the airline industry and canceled thousands of flights, but it certainly wasn’t going to cancel the pub crawl! When life gives you snow

Go skiing!

You may have heard about #snowloco – the massive snowstorm that swept the eastern U.S. and canceled thousands of flights. Including mine. Twice. So now my trip home to Maine has been extended until 2011, which I can’t complain really about. Plus the snow gave me the chance to do one of my favorite winter activities – cross-country ski!

Gross.

This afternoon I learned more than I ever wanted to know about blood, hair balls and poo. I took my little sister to the Animal Grossology exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences – she loves anything related to animals so I knew she’d love it. The exhibit has 5 themes: Blood Slurpers, Dookie Lovers, Slime Makers, Vomit Munchers and Other Gross Stuff.

The Blood Slurpers section was pretty cool. You pushed a level and “blood” spurted through the insect, so you saw how blood moves through the insect’s body.
